Internet Access & Technology

As we transition to learn from in-school to at-home and/or other locations, it is important that our students have access online and have a device that allows remote learning.

Devices

MUSD guarantees that every student who needs a device suitable for remote learning will receive one.   As a result of Santa Clara County's order to "Shelter-in-place," we are asking families to pickup the Chromebooks at our district office (1331 E. Calaveras Blvd., Milpitas) unless otherwise noted by your school. Travel to pick up Chromebooks falls under "Essential Travel." Please connect with your school principal through Parent Square to request a device or for exchanges.

Internet Access

Internet access is critical to remote learning.  Currently, internet and mobile service providers are offering free and/or low-cost internet access.  As neighbors, if you have Comcast, please follow these directions to enable Xfinity WiFi to share your network with others who may be in need.  Please see below for internet access options.
Free Internet Access Available Today:
  • Comcast / Xfinity WiFi - great option for all around access from various locations and residential areas (search the map for available hotspots)
  • AT&T Hotspots - similar to Xfinity above
  • Coffee/Tea Shops (e.g. Starbucks, Peets, boba shops, etc.) (if open)
  • Fast Food Locations (e.g. McDonalds) (if open)
  • All MUSD schools - use the guest network if connecting from your own device (Chromebooks automatically connect)
  • Ask a friend, relative, neighbor (to turn on guest network), etc.
  • Library - Milpitas, Santa Clara, locations (if open)
  • Your phone may have the ability to turn into a hotspot

Please remember to practice social distancing when possible and that businesses always appreciate you supporting them through purchase of their products while using their internet access. We will be reaching out to business (including hotels) around Milpitas to see if they can help support remote learning through providing free internet access.
